We are looking for an entrepreneurial business leader to guide FORTUNE's iconic brand through its next phase of growth.. The FORTUNE Most Powerful Women list was started 20 years ago, at a time when female CEOs were a scarce breed in FORTUNE 500 companies. Top of the list that first year was Carly Fiorina, who at the time was in charge of marketing and sales for Lucent. A few months after her picture was on the cover of the magazine, Hewlett-Packard named her CEO. Since that time, the annual list has blossomed into a series of events that both chronicle and celebrate the rise of women in business, and provide a global series of networking opportunities for those women. While others have moved into this space, FORTUNE MPW remains the gold standard.. The Executive Director would become part of the core executive team of FORTUNE Media Group, with primary responsibility for building out MPW and related businesses globally. In particular, the Executive Director would be responsible for extending the MPW and MPW Next Gen businesses to better serve young professional women, who by all accounts both want and need better opportunities for networking across businesses and industries.. Among the skills needed:. A business development background, with the ability to seek out new opportunities and create business plans to support them. Experience working in either a live events business or a membership business, and familiarity with networks of young professional women. Technological savvy, to help guide development of networking products for the MPW and related communities. Good stage and presentation skill, in order to take a leadership role at MPW and related events. Superb networking skills, in order to better connect the women who are part of these communities. Journalism experience is helpful, but not required. Being able to work well with the talented journalists who guide the content of this franchise is an absolute must. Global experience would be valued, as we intend to look for opportunities worldwide.
